School 21 launched the Women Empowerment Week in Tech project to support women in IT and develop digital skills

In recent years, Uzbekistan has risen in the Gender Equality and Governance Index (gegi) from 103rd to 52nd place. This has been made possible through comprehensive measures aimed at expanding opportunities for women in education, entrepreneurship, and technology. Women Empowerment Week in Tech was created to help girls confidently enter the field of technology, gain the necessary knowledge and find their place in the digital world.

Kamola Sobirova, Advisor to the Minister of Digital Technologies on Youth and Women's Involvement in IT:

"Today, our country is showing significant progress in gender equality issues, which is confirmed by the growth in international rankings. We see that talented and ambitious girls of Uzbekistan are ready to master new technologies, build a career in the digital sphere and contribute to the development of the economy. Women Empowerment Week in Tech is another step towards creating equal opportunities, which will not only help girls acquire sought—after skills at the start, but also gain confidence in their abilities."

In total, more than 400 applications were submitted for participation in the project, and the organizers selected 50 of the most motivated participants from Namangan, Kashkadarya, Navoi, Jizzakh and other regions of the republic. Full provision is provided for girls: meals, accommodation in a dormitory and access to computers to complete the educational program.

Lukhmanova Zarina Talibovna, Chief Executive Officer of School 21:

"At School 21, we actively support girls who want to develop in technology. Today, about 20% of students in School 21 are girls. Among them are university students who work as specialists and mothers. For mothers who come with children, we have created a children's room in Samarkand, and also hold events such as Women Empowerment Week in Tech. I believe that the participants of the Women Empowerment Week in Tech project successfully master new skills, gain confidence in their abilities and can enter the labor market, building a career in the field of technology!"

Today, the participants started their training with the topic "psychology and leadership". The first day is dedicated to the internal barriers that prevent girls from confidently entering the labor market. The participants understand themselves, learn to work with emotions, stress, and also form attitudes that will help them move forward. In the last three days, the program will focus on career development in IT. The participants specialize in project and product management, study IT orders on freelance platforms, and create the strongest resumes and portfolios to enter the market. The program is attended by leading experts from the entertainment industry, including TBC, Payme, Group-IB and Women in Tech experts. Special attention is paid to networking and practical tools that help girls monetize their knowledge and confidently build a career in IT.

Nodira Ibragimova, Partner and Internship Manager, School 21:

"I'm well aware of the difficulties girls may have in IT, because I'm falling in love with a developer myself. Despite the high demand for IT specialists, there may be barriers along the way, as well as uncharacteristic role models. We hope that the participants of Women Empowerment Week in Tech will be able to communicate with experts who have already gone this way, find like-minded people and receive support. It inspires, motivates, and helps you move forward. We believe that the event will be an important step in IT for them and will open up new horizons."

If you want to enter the world of technology, we invite you to join the School 21 community. This is a unique opportunity to get a sought-after profession for free and become part of a community that supports and develops its members. The next qualifying pools in Tashkent and Samarkand will start on June 2.
